Celebrating girl guiding

7:30am Thursday 27th March 2008

GIRL Guides in Droitwich Spa have begun preparations for the group's centenary celebrations.

The group is appealing for more adults and children to join the organisation to help mark the milestone, which falls in September 2009.

“Girlguiding has given me a real lift and it’s been great to have a hobby to share with my daughters."

Jane McHugh

Many events are being organised for the centenary year from trips to Mexico and India to huge street carnivals in Birmingham and pop concerts and parties everywhere in the UK.

As part of this project, girlguiding is holding a coffee evening at Droitwich Library next Tuesday from 6-8pm for adults to go along and see how they can join in. There is no need for people to have previous experience of guiding or working with children. The adult members range from 18 to 80-years-old. "Girlguiding has given me a real lift and it's been great to have a hobby to share with my daughters," said Jane McHugh.
